sHYpS successfully completes the Staranzano Test Campaign

30/07/2026

The sHYpS consortium has reached another important milestone in the development of its innovative liquid hydrogen storage and handling solution for maritime applications.

During an Extraordinary General Assembly held today, project partners gathered to review the successful completion of the most delicate phase of the on-land test campaign at the Staranzano test site, marking a major step forward towards the validation of the sHYpS technology under real operational conditions.

The meeting opened with an overview of the project’s current status and upcoming activities presented by Pierluigi Busetto, sHYpS Project Coordinator, who highlighted the progress achieved across the consortium and the roadmap leading to the next stages of the project.

This was followed by a technical presentation from Michele Capobianco, who provided a comprehensive summary of the work carried out over recent months at the Staranzano test site. The presentation outlined the activities performed, the challenges successfully addressed, and the key results achieved during this critical testing phase.

The successful completion of the campaign represents an important achievement for the project, demonstrating the consortium’s ability to safely integrate and validate the core technological components required for the sHYpS liquid hydrogen storage concept. The results generated will provide valuable input for the next phases of development and testing, bringing the project one step closer to enabling safe, flexible and scalable hydrogen-powered shipping solutions.

As the project progresses, the consortium will continue refining and validating the system, paving the way for future onboard demonstrations and contributing to Europe’s transition towards zero-emission waterborne transport.

Stay tuned for further updates as sHYpS moves into the next phase of its demonstration activities.
